I’d been in the midst of recording a huge new collection of songs when this revised version of michaelaba.com went online back on June 3rd, 2021. The first fifteen became my “Thank You For Your Letter” collection, which I made available on Day One. The blog that came out a few weeks later - still available after all this time (which is why I’m able to refresh my memory with these details) - conveys my surprise at suddenly becoming so improbably proficient at songwriting when short stories appeared more likely to be in my future.
Nevertheless, I was quite confident the next fifteen songs, already slated to be part of the “Waiting for the Next Surprise” collection, would be finished in no time. The first three songs (the title track, “Happy Hour” and “I Can Dream”) had already been posted online, after all - and my GarageBand acumen had grown to the point where I could be at least modestly appreciative of the results.
But then an abrupt left-hand-turn had me leaving my NYC studio apartment for a few months working on Martha’s Vineyard.
A bit of quick research just now shows I wouldn’t be able to announce the arrival of the next three songs (“Follow You Down”, “Sparkling Starlight” and “Her Arrival”) until my blog of March 27th, 2022. I suppose much of this delay was due to my decision to attempt to learn Logic Pro after returning to the City in an effort to get a cleaner sound, but at some point lack of energy or motivation must have had something to do with it. I believe the seventh track - “Your Wife” - was added to the collection before yet another summer on the Vineyard lured me away once again.
And then 2023 came and went.
As did 2024…
And whatever little Logic Pro insight was gained for those earlier songs certainly didn’t remain lodged in my brain, I sadly discovered only a few weeks ago…
But now, as announced on my latest monthly email of this past Monday, I’m pleased to inform you my collection has finally grown!
“Love Has Finally Come” is now the 8th track on the still-to-be-completed “Waiting for the Next Surprise” collection!
Was the wait worth it? Well, judge for yourself!
(OK - I was hoping you could just listen to it here, but you’ll have to navigate over to the music section!)

This monthly blog is really meant to serve as a motivation for me to not stop now. Though I believe there are only two or three completed songs left, there remains a HUGE amount of “snippets” for me to comb over. (That June ’21 blog explains the “snippet” situation quite well, should you want to check it out…)
The next song is called “The Clouds Have Rolled In”. Though nothing’s been recorded yet, I’m challenging myself to have this one available for everyone to hear by this time next month!
Oh, and yes - I do still plan on composing more short stories in the near future…
Although, well - as always, Martha’s Vineyard might easily tempt me away from all this productivity at a moment’s notice…
Wish me luck - and I’ll keep you posted!
