Anyone who has had an even passing glimpse into the collection of these monthly blogs should be well aware of where I stand regarding next week’s Presidential Election.  Here are a few passing thoughts as we eagerly and perhaps anxiously await the results…

There was no way to know when she signed up for this whether or not Kamala Harris would be up to the enormity of her task.  She could have easily been the deer-in-the-headlight, freezing up from moment to moment.  But no - she has been utterly fantastic.  She’s earning this honor in the best way possible.  I am SO impressed!

Images of last night’s Harris rally in Washington, DC are stunning.  Her ability to transform the public’s perception of the Ellipse from that dark and dreary day of January 6, 2020 to one of joyous anticipation is truly remarkable.  Have any elementary school kid point to which event best represents the spirit of “Love”; the answer would likely be unanimous.  We do have the power to move forward in a joyous way.

The people who know the other guy best, especially those of us still living in his hometown of New York City, cannot stand him.  He single-handedly ruined the spacious beauty of New York’s Plaza Hotel, despite only owning it for seven years.  He lost 83 million dollars selling it off, proving that real estate is right up there with casinos as a counter-intuitive means of bankrupting this particular businessman.  He has stiffed people who have worked for him and used the judicial system to his complete advantage, suing anyone who didn’t have the means to afford their own representation.  We here in NYC are sadly familiar with people like this.

I’d rather have Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, Eminem and Bruce Springsteen on my side any day of the week than some pathetic comedian no-one’s ever heard of (along with Kid Rock).  And I’m sure Kamala Harris can dance much better than the other guy - hopefully we’ll see for ourselves on Inauguration Night, 2025!

Joe Biden was perhaps the only individual in the country who could have defeated the other guy, who was the sitting President, back in 2020.  He was Vice-President to this country’s first-ever African-American Commander-in-Chief and ushered in our first-ever female Vice-President, who happens to be African-American as well - and will hopefully MAKE HISTORY next week.  Thank you, Joe!

Our 46th President also did a tremendous job.  The economy is soaring, inflation and crime are both down, and the adults in his Cabinet have been hard-working, articulate and effective.  History will look well on Joe Biden.

Anyone who doesn’t believe the Environmental Protection Agency should exist should never lead that department.  Isn’t this obvious?  Let’s not go down that rabbit hole again.

And this election is crucially important.  Don’t let anyone tell you the whole thing is already ruined and it makes no difference who holds the highest office. Each generation is faced with their own watershed moments in time.  A man from Germany was seated at Bar 135, my Sunday bartending spot in Tribeca, and he cautiously remarked on our lack of understanding how everything can change so completely at a moment’s notice.  Our moment is now.

2024 has already produced great results in other countries.  Now everyone is watching us.   I don’t believe we will let them down.

Please vote, if you haven’t already.

And please choose Kamala Harris and Tim Walz!
